Children First Derby ran a Christmas Card Competition for all the children supported by the charity. The children had to design and submit a Christmas Card.
Our newly appointed Patron of Children First Derby, Pollyanna Pickering one of Europe’s foremost wildlife artists, kindly agreed to judge the competition and chose the winning Christmas Card, designed by 10 year old Halima.
Pollyanna Commented : “I chose Halima’s Christmas Card as she had given it so much thought and attention to detail. I liked the colours and the intricate detail she used.”
Derby Live had kindly donated tickets for Halima and her family to see the Pantomime Beauty and the Beast at Derby Arena and Pollyanna Pickering presented her prize at the Arena prior to the show. Halima had the added surprise of meeting all the cast members, directly after the show and had her photo taken with the Mayor of the City of Derby, Councillor John Whitby, along with the entire cast including, another of the charity’s Patrons, Gwen Taylor, who played the Enchantress.
Halima said, “It was the most exciting day of my life, not only meeting Pollyanna, but watching a live pantomime and then meeting Gwen Taylor and the whole cast back stage after the show. The Mayor and his wife chatted to me and congratulated me on winning the competition.”
Chief Executive, Danny Smith of Children First Derby said:
“We will be delighted to email out Halima’s winning Christmas card to all our contacts and supporters of our charity. Our thanks go to Pollyanna Pickering for judging the competition and to Derby Live for kindly donating the tickets to Beauty and the Beast and making it such a special day for her.”
