The Duchess of Devonshire has named Children First Derby as the beneficiary of this year’s Chatsworth Fountain Collection. The Duchess is pleased to have donated the funds from this collection to “a local Derby charity that supports many disadvantaged or otherwise vulnerable children, young people and families”.
The Duchess also met with Children First Derby’s Chief Executive, Danny Smith and Fundraising and PR Coordinator Gina Repton as well as Scout Association representative Aaron Horsley, and the Children First Derby fundraising team. (Pictured above)
Danny added “we are incredibly grateful to the Duchess for nominating our charity as the recipient of the collection this year, we know that our services have never been more needed in Derby than they are now and are so pleased to have them recognised and supported in this way’”
The coins are to be collected from the fountain at Chatsworth House, cleaned, sorted and counted by local Scouts from the Derby East and Ilkeston District before they are donated to Children First Derby. The District Explorer Scout Commissioner for Derby East and Ilkeston Districts, Aaron Horsley, said;
“It has always been a part of Scouting to help those less fortunate than ourselves, so when we were asked by the charity Children First Derby to help with the kind donation from the Chatsworth House Estate to clean and sort the coins thrown into the fountain the obvious answer was yes. The Scouts Association encourages its members to make a positive impact in the community, so while sorting and cleaning these donations we will be helping the positive work being delivered through Children First Derby.”
Children First Derby has been running for 44 years and it is thanks to donations such as these that we are able to continue the vital work in supporting vulnerable children, young people and families in the Derby area.
