Registered Charity Number 1111157
Working with families with children up to age 18 years at times of stress or crisis
Children First Derby is grateful for the support it receives from all its volunteers and recognises that it
could not continue its work without their hard work and commitment.
A wide range of people volunteer to work with the Charity for all sorts of reasons. Sometimes people want to
develop a particular skill to enable them to enhance their career. Others want to give something back to
society. People having a break from work or those who have retired often feel that they would like to do
something new and different or continue to use the expertise and knowledge they have gained over the years.
Because of the nature of our work all our volunteers are required to have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau
disclosure and provide two character references.
A mileage allowance or bus fares are paid for out of pocket expenses.
Volunteers need to be trustworthy, reliable and able to fit in with the ethos of the Charity. We ask all
volunteers to be able to give at least six months of their time, although we do appreciate that people's
circumstances change. Many volunteers have been with the charity for a number of years.
There are four volunteering opportunities with Children First Derby:
Befriending Service Volunteer
Trustee
Admin/Clerical Volunteer
Fundraising/Publicity Volunteer
We provide training and ongoing support to all our volunteers.
To show our appreciation to those who work for Children First Derby in a voluntary capacity we present
certificates at our AGM to all those who have given their time as a volunteer for the previous year.
Befriending volunteers need to provide about three hours per week during the day time. This is because
all the service users are parents and evenings and weekends are busy family times. Times are arranged to
meet the needs of both the volunteer and the service user. There is also a monthly evening meeting for
befriending volunteers.

Admin volunteers work in the Charity's general office. They work with the administrator and carry out
a range of tasks. The times and days that they come into the office are agreed with the administrator. You
will need some IT experience, but the administrator will help you to further develop you skills.

Like all Charities we need publicity and donations to continue with our work. If you are able to organise
an event or know how to write letters requesting funding we would like to hear from you. Someone who
fundraises on a regular basis might also like to be a trustee and work with members of the Management Committee
on ideas for promoting the Charity.

All trustees are members of the Management Committee. They meet on the second Monday of each month at
6.00pm. Trustees set the policy and direction of the Charity. They are responsible for ensuring that the
Charity operates in an efficient and effective manner. They promote the mission and values of Children
First Derby. From time to time sub-groups are set up to look at aspects of the work of the Charity.
Trustees need to be willing, when necessary, to take on a wider role than attending a monthly meeting.
