We’re extremely proud of our Children First Derby Drama Group – who have been working hard on their latest screenplay, Behind the Mask – depicting the effects Covid-19 has had on young people and their families.

Established 4 years ago, the Drama Group forms an active part of our Mentoring Service, which provides support to children aged between 10 – 18 years.

The Mentoring Service's trained volunteers act as caring role models to children in our local community who need some additional support, helping the children grow into confident, successful adults.

The Service encourages the children and young people involved to participate in new and creative activities that they would otherwise be unable to experience. And the Drama Group has become hugely popular among our mentees.

Running over a 20 week block, repeated twice a year, the Drama Group meet up for a couple of hours each week – starting with teambuilding games and ice breakers before working hard to tailor a script, initially written by Children First Derby Staff, and then going on to rehearse and perform their play to an audience.

This year, due to social distancing measures, the Derby QUAD kindly agreed to support, inviting the Drama Group to the Quad to experience filming the play in the Digital Studio. Furthermore, the Quad also agreed to host a special screening of Behind The Mask for the Drama group's family and friends.

We would like to say a special Thank You to everyone at the Quad who has been involved in this project - your time, efforts and enthusiasm has been greatly appreciated.

More news on the Drama Group's special screening, coming soon.
