Derby Uni students raise over £2,000 for Children First Derby We’d like to say a special thank you to the BA Sport Management students from the University of Derby, who have collectively raised an incredible £2,345 for Children First Derby. As part of their final study year, the Sport Management students were tasked with running a series of fundraising events and activities to help raise funds and awareness for Children First Derby. This year’s student fundraising initiatives included: A Family Activity Day This group partnered with local health and fitness club, David Lloyd Derby, holding a fun-filled afternoon of activities for children from DL Kids club. Activities included a range of challenges and sports games, crafts, and face painting, and the afternoon proved to be a huge success and thoroughly enjoyed by all. The group also held a fundraising raffle with a chance to win a signed Derby County Football shirt. The Derby Days - Guest Speaker Event Celebrating the past and present of Derby County Football Club, the evening provided Derby County fans with an opportunity to meet and listen to guest speakers, Derby County legends, Roger Davies, Kevin Wilson, and Phil Gee. This successful event was held at Mickleover Football Club, and presented by Derby County’s matchday announcer, Matt McGibbon. The evening event also included a fundraising raffle with a chance to win a signed Derby County shirt and a live performance by local singer/songwriter, Tom Walsh, who performed his single ‘Derby Till I Die.’ On The Look Out – Football Tournament This popular 6-a-side football tournament saw several teams compete for the title in a thrilling evening tournament, held at Derby University’s 3G football pitch. Spirits were high, with lots of friendly cheers of encouragement from participating teams and spectators, making for a great atmosphere throughout the event. The group also held a successful fundraising raffle, with prizes including Derby County match tickets, a Laser Tag pass from Willows Sports Centre, and designer caps from Storung Attire. An Energetic Dancercise This group’s Dancercise event got everyone moving and grooving to help raise funds for Children First Derby – with an evening of fast-paced dance routines including everything from street dancing to ballroom. Led by the group’s Dancercise instructor, Ivana, and held at the delightful Orange Tree Derby Bar and Grill, this fun-filled Dancercise event proved to be an evening of dancing and laughter with atmospheric lighting and funky music throughout. A Darts Charity Knockout Event Having partnered with the Central England Darts League, the Darts Charity Knockout event proved to be a fantastic event with players battling it out to win a host of fantastic prizes. This event took place at Spot On Leisure Loughborough, and in addition to the darts competition, the group raised additional funds for Children First Derby with a successful raffle and a football card fundraiser initiative. We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the Sport Management student groups for your hard work and outstanding efforts, helping to collectively raise an impressive £2,345 for Children First Derby. You have been an absolute pleasure to work with and we wish you all the very best in your future endeavours. We would also like to say a special thank you to Sport Management Lecturer, James Bostock, and to everyone at the University of Derby for their ongoing support of Children First Derby. It is greatly appreciated.
