We would like to say a HUGE Thank You to Andrew Cawdell, and James Foulk, who recently raised an incredible £2,145 for Children First Derby after successfully completing the Robin Hood Half Marathon.

After starting to run together during lockdown to keep fit, Andrew and James decided to set themselves a goal to complete a half marathon event to raise money for a local charity.

Andrew said:

We entered the popular Robin Hood Half Marathon in Nottingham with over 4,000 other runners. Our training schedule proved to be quite tough, both mentally and physically, as we were running three times a week on average, as well as completing stretching and strengthening sessions in the gym right up until the race. But we both lost a stone a weight and felt fantastic!

The undulating 13.1 mile (21.1km) race is one of the longest established and most popular city centre road events in the UK, with 2021 marking the 40th anniversary of this popular half marathon event.

Having been unable to take place in 2020, due to the pandemic, the 2021 Robin Hood Half Marathon proved to be more popular than ever with almost 5,000 runners taking part.

And the picturesque race route, which took runners past the River Trent, Nottingham Castle, the Robin Hood statue and Wollaton Park, was lined with a wealth of excited supporters, cheering everyone on along the way.

Andrew, a hair stylist at Alfred Hairdressing, Derby, and James, a senior performance tennis coach at David Lloyd Clubs, Nottingham, decided to raise funds for Children First Derby, after learning more about the challenges the charity faced during the pandemic.

In the lead up to the event, Andrew and James managed to garner huge support from their respective clients – helping not only to raise an incredible sum for Children First Derby but also helping to raise awareness of the charity too.

We both thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon - gaining a sense of achievement not only from completing the run in under 2 hours, but also from the supportive people around us who kindly donated £2145 in total. Many of our clients hadn’t heard of Children First Derby, and the fantastic work you all do, so it was a great talking point both in my salon at Alfred Hairdressing and at David Lloyd gym where James works. We both hope this has created more awareness and visibility for Children First Derby as it is such a worthwhile support system for children, young people and families in need of help.

Well done to Andrew and James for completing the Robin Hood Half Marathon and for helping to raise funds and awareness for Children First Derby - it is very much appreciated. And thank you to everyone who helped to support them.
